Phaelona is a character in the IDW comics based on the 1983 Dungeons & Dragons cartoon series.

About

Phaelona is a girl trapped in a fortress in Waterdeep who has the power to portal in magic items, and sometimes the people attached to them, to try and help her with the siege she is under.

Forgotten Realms

Phaelona is the reason that the Adventurers left The Realm and are now located in the Forgotten Realms.

Conjecture

It's possible Phaelona was created to retell aspects of the Kareena story, but in a new way so that people wouldn't know what the story was before reading it. Much the same way that Uni and the Hunt for the Lost Horn adventure is more or less a retelling of the Valley of the Unicorns episode of the cartoon.
