Hand of Vecna - Kas - Idle Champions

The Hand of Vecna is an ancient and evil artifact that originated in Eldritch Wizardry.

About[]

The Hand of Vecna is a storied artifact that apparently first appeared Eldritch Wizardry (1976), the third supplement to the original Dungeons & Dragons rules. Vecna had been destroyed and all that was left were an Eye and a Hand.

The Hand of Vecna and the Eye of Vecna were inspired by similar items that appear in the Eternal Champion series by Michael Moorcock (the Hand of Kwll and the Eye of Rhynn).

The Hand of Vecna gets more detail in the 1993 manual Book of Artifacts.

In time for Vecna's appearance in the Netflix Stranger Things TV show, and since, the artifact of the Hand of Vecna has appeared in several pieces of Dungeons & Dragons media and merchandise, of late.

Cursed artifacts of Vecna, Found and Preserved
Seldom is the name of Vecna spoken except in a hushed voice. Vecna was, in his time, one of the mightiest of all wizards. Through dark magic and conquest, he forged a terrible empire. For all his power, Vecna couldn’t escape his own mortality. He began to fear death and take steps to prevent his end from ever coming about.

Orcus, the demon prince of undeath, taught Vecna a ritual that would allow him to live on as a lich. Beyond death, he became the greatest of all liches.

Some say that Vecna’s lieutenant Kas coveted the Spider Throne for himself, or that the sword his lord made for him seduced him into rebellion. Whatever the reason, Kas brought the Undying King’s rule to an end in a terrible battle that left Vecna’s tower a heap of ash. Of Vecna, all that remained were one hand and one eye, grisly artifacts that still seek to work the Whispered One’s will in the world.

The Eye of Vecna and the Hand of Vecna might be found together or separately. The eye looks like a bloodshot organ torn free from the socket. The hand is a mummified and shriveled left extremity.

Perfect for a spot of honor in your game room, or on display in your store, now you can add both relics to your illustrious collection! The bloodshot, golden-green eye measures 1.5” and perches between the fingers of its companion hand. Conversely, the shriveled mummified hand measures about 7.5” in length, and nests for all to see upon a red swath of satin in a bell jar display case. The wooden display base measures 7” while the glass cover stands about 10.5” in height.

Press the Use Item button to attune yourself with Hand of Vecna.

When healthy, you are granted a special ability:

  • Removes 1 Health State on use and reveals your location through Killer Instinct for 3 seconds.
  • Reveals the Aura of the nearest Locker in yellow.
  • Rush enter that Locker to activate Hand of Vecna:
    • Teleports you to another Locker that is that least 10 metres away.
    • This will trigger a Loud Noise Notification on the target Locker and cause Killer Instinct to linger for 5 seconds.
  • Can be found in Treasure Chests located in the environment.

Magic Limited Items are depleted on use but kept on your person.

They cannot be brought back to the Campfire after a Trial and are removed by The Entity upon exiting the Trial.

Hand of Vecna - Legendary Artifact

This blackened, charred mummified left hand with long claw-like fingers is icy cold to the touch.

  • The Hand of Vecna is effectively a +2 frost spiked gauntlet.
  • Enhancement: Attack rolls and damage rolls
  • Critical:+2d6 cold damage
  • Property: If you are lawful good, good, or unaligned, you must succeed on a DC 15 Charisma check once per week to avoid becoming evil.
  • Property: You take a -2 penalty to Dexterity checks and Dexterity-based skill checks.
  • Property: No benefits or penalties are granted by the Eye unless the eye is placed on the end of a left arm whose hand has been severed. If later removed, the character dies.

Power (At-Will♦ Cold): Free Action. All untyped damage dealt by this weapon changes to cold damage. Another free action returns the damage to normal. Power (Encounter):Free Action. Use this power when you hit with the weapon. Choose an ability score: the target takes a -1 penalty and you gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls, damage rolls, ability checks and skill checks related to that ability until the end of your next extended rest. Power (Daily): Standard Action. All allies within 5 squares of you gain a +4 bonus to defenses until the end of your next turn. If an enemy hits any of these allies, that enemy is weakened until the end of the encounter. Power (Daily♦ Necrotic): Standard Action. Make an attack: Ranged 10; Charisma vs. Reflex; on a hit, the target takes 10 ongoing necrotic damage and is dazed (save ends both); on a miss, the target takes half damage. If the ongoing damage reduces the target to less than 20 hit points, the target dies. THE HAND AND EYE OF VECNA BENEFITS Pieces Benefit 2 You gain a +5 bonus on attack rolls from Eye of Vecna or the Hand of Vecna attack powers. Your Strength and Intelligence scores increase by 1 a piece, but your Wisdom score decreases by 1. The items gain the following traits: Property: If you are lawful good, good, or unaligned, you must succeed on a DC 22 Charisma check once per week to avoid becoming evil. This replaces the individual checks to avoid becoming evil for either the Eye of Vecna or the Hand of Vecna. Power (Daily):Standard Action. You summon to a square within 5 squares of you an Angel of Secrets. This angel follows your orders, and acts just after you on the initiative order.
