If you're going to claim fair use or not have any licensing information, you damn well better include where you got the image from. Surgo 15:54, November 12, 2009 (UTC)

So, we've been having some hassle lately with uploaded images and general confusion (or ignorance) among users about what is the proper way to go about adding images, what images can be added and how to properly mark them. These problems will of course continue to persist as there will always be people who simply don't take the time to read rules and understand things before doing them, and others who simply miss them outright. The goal is simply to minimize confusion and problems. So, I have a few questions and comments as follows.
Is there some way to add a short sentence or two onto the Special:Upload page saying something along the lines of "All uploaded images must be properly marked with a license. Fair Use images must include a link back to their source."?
In addition, I've noticed some confusion with users adding the {{Copyright Disclaimer}} onto images instead of the license templates. Would there ever be a reason to include that on an image?
Now, the backlog of images is probably pretty hefty at this point, but to ensure we're on the ball about this, someone is probably going to have to go through and make sure every single file is on the up-and-up. I can manage that duty (using it as a chance to be a better-learned admin) unless someone else wants to volunteer. I'll get on it (and work periodically and slowly on it) after I finish updating the formatting on the 3.5e Races articles, which should be quite soon.
To all admins or other interested users, if you see a user (new or not) add an image, check to see if a license was added. If the image gets marked for deletion, be sure that the uploader gets the message, preferably by leaving a message on their talk page. It only takes a minute and hopefully will avoid frustrations down the line.
To finish up, would anyone care to write an entertaining guideline for users to get a handle on how to use the site, how to add material, pointing them to other handy material and other general usage tips? --Ganteka Future 18:40, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
I can cover a guideline if you want. I could bang something out by later next week. - TarkisFlux 19:07, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
That would flippin' rock the world. Totally. I always kinda hoped we'd have everything settled by a year out (mid August if I recall). So, I'm kinda hoping to push here near the end, which might coincide the anniversary with pretty close to 10,000 articles, which would also be awesome. --Ganteka Future 19:18, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
