Arcanines do not occur naturally, the only way for an Arcanine to exist is to expose a Growlithe to a firestone. As such, Arcanines are entirely legendary in many places. However, their beauty and glorious speed has made them endure in song and story.

An Arcanine looks similar to the Growlithe it once was. However, its transformation has given it longer, fuller fur - especially in regal tufts around its ankles and tail. The Arcanine is blessed with a soft and deceptively cuddly mane, and its tiger stripes are bold and elaborate.

An Arcanine has a personality similar to that of a Growlithe, it is loyal and very brave. Arcanines are protective of those they consider friends and very dangerous to those they consider enemies.

Fearless (Ex): An Arcanine is unflinching in battle. An Arcanine is immune to Fear effects, and cannot be intimidated.

Flame Wheel (Su): An Arcanine can send out a wave of fire in all directions. The burst of flame is 20 feet tall, and extends to a radius of five feet per two HD. All creatures and objects within the flame wheel suffer 2d6 + 1 per HD of fire damage (no save). Targets within 10 feet of the flame wheel suffer 2d4 of fire damage, while targets within 20 feet (but outside of 10 feet) suffer only 1d4 of fire damage. An Arcanine cannot use flame wheel for 1 round after using it.

Trip (Ex): Whenever an Arcanine inflicts damage with its bite attack, it may immediately make a trip attempt against the same target without making a touch attack. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the Arcanine.

Extreme Speed (Su): Once a day, an Arcanine can move and act more quickly than normal for a number of rounds equal to its HD. On its turn, the Arcanine may take an extra full-round action, either before or after its regular action. It gains a +8 Dodge bonus to AC. It may jump twice as far as normal, and ignores height based limits to jump distance. Activating extreme speed is a free action.

Extreme Speed does not stack with haste, or any effect which itself does not stack with haste.

Spell-like abilities (Sp): At will: produce flame, pyrotechnics, cause fear. 1/day: fire shield, flame strike, magic circle against chaos. As a sorcerer of a caster level equal to its HD.

Skills: An Arcanine receives a +2 racial bonus on Listen, Move Silently, and Spot checks. It also receives a +8 racial bonus on Survival checks when tracking by scent.
